Ex COL student confirms stories here
Hello Unicorngrease.
This is a former member of the cult (City of Light) you have so affectionately called out on this web site. I cannot reveal who I am, but know that there is ample proof to your rather yellow dogged accusations on here. I rather find them funny. Kyung Ae, or now Tae Yun, is a total money grubber and is in it only to steal the money from her students to forward her goals to become the best most successful person in the world, a delusion that her friends and confidants, and her ilk, cultivate. She ruined marriages and set up her instructors with divorced students, arranged back room deals with politicians on the Democratic and Republican sides, playing both sides, and put up hedge funds, lobbyists, local politicos, and raised funds for alleged charities. So much of it is true out there that it sickens me to read about it again and be reminded of it.
The lesser scandals seem to include sexual allegations, but all I know is there was some hanky panky going on in COL and they deny it. I just won't go into detail as it would reveal who we were with, when and where, which only would add her to the list of tabloid fodder celebs out there, and I'd rather not give her the notoriety of being on the front page of the Sun. Nothing there is concrete from those other hearsay posts, so you have really no evidence there was anything other than 'hot peppers were erect' or something. Yes, they were at times. Uusally though we were too exhausted to actually do anything about it. Ha.
She's not going to come clean, as her determined PR team continues to make it sound like she is God's gift the America, when in fact she is a has been ex car sales woman from Korea via Vermont who got lucky, really lucky, and in the 90s indeed was a rare populist martial arts teacher, with that Ki energy stuff and all
I do hope there aren't very many of the cult members left and they have begun to leave, as some other sites have indicated, and I wish those brainwashed there no ill will, not even the ones you have chided here.
In the end, Kim deserves her reward in full, whatever that is, and the internet has judged her and found her wanting.
I am not racist. It would be impossible in my case unless I was racist against my own. But I am prejudiced against the lies that have been performed in the name of her supposed ki energy and the hundreds of people she touched in a negative way, not a positive one.
I know she hasn't found religion and that other stuff is a cover. Please print this in your blog. It will be fun. Do not include my name. Anonymous

Ah, the whole partly Asian bit doesn't fly, but okay.
Julia's future husband was ordered by COL to pretend to be one of the masters to try and intimidate us into not posting as OKD and the like.
Stop making fun of Great Grandmaster
Guess what we got? A COL letter!
Dear MH and your friends:
Quit scandalizing your former master. You are making fun of her for no good reason except to be mean. You need to apologize to us at once on your inflammatory blog. Dr. Grandmaster Kim is a nice and humble saint and you should all be ashamed for what you are writing about her. We don't go on blogs and mouth off about you guys so you should not do this either. Dr. Kim helps thousands and shows them the ki energy. You are just making it sound like she is a joke. We do not like lies about Dr. Kim. You need to stop doing this and move on, maybe go to another blog and think of someone else.
Your friends don't even know us or about Dr. Kim's teaching and are just enjoying making fun of a successful person because you are not successful and you are immature little children. We know some of you use fake names and that you bounce your IP off other people, but that is just part of this silly game you are playing.
Dr. Kim is a wonderful person who helps many and should not be trolled by immature bloggers who have nothing better to do. We will not go into why we think she is great because she just is. She helps disabled people and little children and also older adults. You listed the charities and mocked them, and the awards. Shame on you. She does have the right to a wikipedia page and one day even a Nobel. She is awesome. You just don't see it. Open your eyes.
The strangest little rants are not valid, so I will answer some of them for you, and maybe you will be enlightened.
You have no business criticizing how we marry and who we date, or our personal lives. COL is not a cult. It is none of your business. It makes no matter who hooked up with whom at a party, or who went to the weekend retreat and might have hooked up. Don't you have something better to do, like paint or play video games? Seriously. You don't know us. Why do you hater us? Why do you hate what Dr. Kim has done and what she represents? You must be jealous.
It doesn't matter if her doctorate is honorary from Korea. It is a doctorate.
The ridiculous made up reviews and quotes from ex students on his page are lclearly the same two or more people. You must think we are suckers. Come on. We have been posting our own reviews on Yelp, true, but you are lying about Grandmaster. How dare you. Although this is a guess that it's just a few of you, it probably is a good one.
You are not fooling anyone. You must remove the supposed scandal about Kitty. (We did). You are not that name. We don't want to go there.
Dr. Kim did not do anything to deserve this. The Howard Johnson story is real. So what if the staff now doesn't know her. They couldn't. It is some 30 years later.
Some of you must truly be insane to post about alleged former students, as we can tell who they were, and we'll know. That Kay person is not and never was in COL. Even under a fake name. None of us did what she claimed.
I understand this Penny is just a name stolen from a game or something, like the Jane was stolen from a comic book. This is foolish of you and a waste of time.
This alleged cult with horrors like cutting off organs and stuff is all fantasy. That never happened. Whomever started that rumor is lying and has misled you. Dr. Kim never did that to us. QWe would not have stayed if she did something like that, nor would anyone have.
The strange diets were just culture. Not cult like.
If you have any questions you may contact me. (Address withheld). Jung Su.

My Dinner with Lighthouse sales girl
Hello slayers:
I am from the Medford LWS, or used to be. Thought I would shoot you a line and inform you about the weird ass dinner I had several years ago. The boss told me one day that I should stick with my work and not be interested in the coworkers, but I had thus far thought nothing of it. I had been going to the break room on occasion to have a cup of joe with a girl, let's all her Lighthouse girl, since I'd hate to embarrass her now. Anyways, maybe I wouldn't. Let's just say it was total innocent chit chat, nothing personal, not even remotely. Then I began getting weird emails about a special meeting with the VP, which wasn't regular since I'm not in the main office, just in the back. Then the big VP guy, Morgan I think, has a word with me about fraternization, and I'm like, what the hell, as I wasn't any more interested in lighthouse girl than anyone else. Then weeks later this really intense lady comes and talks to me about energy. It took me a while to realize it's the CEO, even though like her picture is everywhere. She was hoping I had a lot to offer, money I suppose, but working for piddly sums for odd hours doesn't pay much. So really she is lecturing me on my personal life, not giving me advice. I was like, that was freaky. What's the deal?
I decided then and there I would get another job, but first, I would try to get to know the Lighthouse girl. Then I would make them wonder even more. I was sure I would not get into real trouble. Anyway, I arrange for us to get to a local coffee shop, a Starbucks in Medford not far from work, and that we would meet there, only we were actually being followed. I couldn't believe it, but then she tells me they have Alvin's cronies following me in a car. So we try and lose the car and go to a friend's apartment.
Then she tells me she is working directly with sales and that she must cow tow to the big guy there, in sales, and all their weird business practices are making her creeped out. The head boss and his sales people think it's all just nerves and working long hours, but they're up to something. I don't like it there. I want to leave. I advise she leave also. She can't leave.
So we thought we lost the tail and went to the burger place, Jakes I think, and we have this surreal dinner over burgers. This is that nothing sexual ever happened between us, but that the boss lady was interested in groomer her for some kind of weird promotion at their Canada affiliate, and she has to dress sexy for the part and not have any reservations. I was like, what the hell, who does that?
She didn't want to meet the realtor people because their boss was one of Kim's best, and kind of a rube himself. She hated how he was so smug, and she knows about his weird taste in hair. You have to have good hair, not a fake wig. I had no idea what that was about.
Anyway, so we have dinner and nothing happens, but the next say the vice pres. has me into his office and there are other people in the little inner circle there, and they put me on report for dating off company time. I wasn't on company time. I was off that day.
They continued to follow me around for weeks and lighthouse girl stopped talking to me, and looked distant and cold. Eventually she was transferred somewhere else and I never saw her again, but I left. I quit in 2011.
I hadn't been online because we aren't allowed to look on the net on business hours. After I quit, I found some stuff on this Kim. What a fake. I almost joined her little cult. It makes me feel dirty. I have no idea why they were acting like that. It wasn't about harassment or anything. It was about controlling our private lives. I eventually stumbled upon the journals online and a light bulb went off. Ohly cow. They're a cult!
Also note this, we do not have more than 1,000 total employees in the whole US branch, and the 12 or so who claim to run more are lying. I think Medford is aware of it and does nothing. They're running fairly emppty buildings. I wonder where the money went.
I could go on but that's the story. JSS

The Key Issues of COL
Most of COL was in fact a cult, an abusive cult which could have become dangerous. They indeed did do certain really messed up things to keep the cult members in line.
They would keep journals that were given to the cult leader and she could use the journals to make lessons based on them, or against them if they asrgued or strayed.
The cult participated in love bombing and hypnotic suggestion just like a real cult, and behaved using cold techniques such as reading cues and such to make people believe the cult leader had powers and could foretell events.
Members of COL were often deprived of certain things such as money, clothing, sleep and other things to keep them in line, so they could not stray, a common tactic of cults. Often they were required to give money earned through the companies the cult leader had exclusively back to the master, so that she would literally control their lives.
Cult leaders participated in berating, mind games, exercises designed to dull the mind, and disciplining, although no direct evidence of beating could be proven as they also were a martial arts school and any bruises could be chalked up to sparring.
The cult leader would claim she was going to ask them to leave, or walk out on them, so they'd stay and beg to return, which is a common tactic.
COL does still exist. Sources in 2012 confirmed that there is still a version, although much smaller than in 2007-10, and mainly ithe members are the high up leaders of the original instructional staff of the academy.
A recent attempt to be part of a knight's order called the Constantines was to disguise the cult actions and make it look like they were part of a nonprofit, in essence to cheat on their taxes, according to an ex source. This ironically made them look like a cult.
The IP addresses for all of the YouTube channels under Erika and Sarah and Scott, three instructors, all go back to the same Fremont locations within the computer company and the academy, as though they have time to post all the time. It is likely they use some kind of bot algorithm.
A recent 2012 YouTube video they posted about a demo team in the course of one day racked in 300 views, which is impossible as there were no connections to that channel, escept througgh the student accounts at JSW and LMS. They therefore faked the ratings.
We also have been known to fake our popularity, but at least we admit to it.

Oh you Guys are Gonna Love This Great Fraud Master Kim!
October 21, 2012
Hello all you lovely readers! Unicorn here. I have some juicy dirt, far more interesting than mere gossip about scraps from an old blog about unpublished smut on Lady Deadly Teeth. We’ve been busy blogging and researching, and have even gone to the east coast, to Vermont and the like, and Korea via the net for some fun on Kyung Ae. You know her. You love her. But you don’t. Not really.
It seems a lot of her fun time students got to visit a shack in Korea she claimed was her family home, but whether or not it actually was somewhere she stayed is still unknown.
A recent afterimage to Vermont identified the Howard Johnsons she allegedly stayed at, but suspect nobody asked them if she really had worked there. Well guess what? Shocking revelation! She might have worked there, but as a sales person.
What we did find out is that she was a car salesperson, one of the best in her little town, no such mention of the Howard Johnsons appeared until after her first dojo burned down in the early 1980s.Then she got the new one near Ben and Jerry’s, and of all people, Dr. Ruth Westhiemer.
The teacher story where she walked into a college and a school and said her name and that whole thing about teaching subjects in class not related to martial arts, might half be true, but for the most part it’s false. She never taught in a public school in Vermont.
Oh and the whole deal about her being abandoned and her seeing her friend blow up, both of those were taken from many old Korean movies of the time. Shocking. The alleged friend is not around to dispute this. Nobody else was there but her. Interesting note, it wasn’t that hard to find out what really happened during the war. She got lost. She was after all a kid. A normal Korean kid. It was a crowd running. Not very exciting. Let’s spice it up with some explosions, like a movie.
The uncles did indeed train her. The master in the mountains didn’t exist. It too was taken from popular kung fu movies, including the TV series of that name. Several Korean masters claim this back story.
What is true? Nobody can say really. If they so much as question Our Lady of Virtue, she will kick them out.
We however are not part of the organization, so here goes.
Art Fontaine was a military man on a Korean base in SuWon (sounds familiar) where he met a petite cocktail waitress named Kyung Ae, (not to entertain the idea of this bar being a strip joint, which we cannot confirm, or deny, but it was at some point the past), whose family wasn’t exceptionally poor or wealthy, but he was, and he had property in the states. Kyung Ae and he married and the whole family moved to Seattle and then Vermont.
We are not wholly interested in Art. He became ex husband number one after an infidelitty, but up until the movie from Burlington to Milpitas was still around.
Kyung Ae had been trained along with her younger brother, but not her sister (or sisters), by her family friend and uncles, not from some mystical bearded man in the mountains, who mysteriously died some time prior to the pre world olympics where Kyung Ae got a coaching job.
Interesting about the pre world games. She was an assistant, not head coach. The board has been notified of these errors, but they don’t care.(Korean judges in the olympics are notorious).
The first dojo she had burned down around 1981 or so. Then she got another. Her original records and whatnot seemed to either have survived, or were copied after the fire.
It is claimed she reached the title of Grandmaster when her master promoted her on a special visit to Vermont. We can confirm there was an old Korean man visiting her once and she just became a Grandmaster, but this is dubious. His name was never mentioned to her students, (from reliable Vermont ex student sources), and then she would later go on to try and arrange marriages for the Korean old men she brought to her studio. Sleazy. (Then again, they refused to marry the men, and we cannot confirm the men).
The exalted bench did not happen to exist in her literature, the one in Vermont, until this year. The earlier records do not mention this bench.
We will not be going into the other infidelities and hangups or routing out sources, or revealing ours.
And she has arranged the marriages of each of her top instructors, to the most eligable top female instructors. This is cult like.
Linda's post.

Alls Quiet on the TYK Front
Hello lovely readers.
You are few and far between now, but that is partly thanks to no news in good news. It appears that there isn't even so much as a peep out of the culties since a long time ago, except for some hacking of a Facebook account. The hacking cannot be confirmed though so it might not have been them directly.
It's all hallows eve so why not explore some of the scarier episodes of the cult days, as taught by exers, and whether or not some of them are true or false.
The scariest seems to be that fateful April 1997 story where reportedly the Kimmie thought to scare the boys into one of her castration fantasies, as a lecture on keeping their junk in the do boks. Also rumors have surfaced there is a list of penis sizes and also one of the instructors was obsessed with sex, or more, thus leading to said scary night.
The penis size chart alleges that someone named Harrison is the biggest one, and next to Mark is the true master of the group. His member is apparently described as the size of a pony. Since my friend has seen him in sweats, he can vouch for his ample member, and would not want to see it close up. Yikes. The smallest penis is from someone named Scott, who apparently still has potency and allegedly can have mutiple ejecta, let's say. This is impossible as men do not do that several times. This was also said on numerous occasions during TYK parties so it is not a rumor that Scott allegedly can deliver more than once.
The alleged rumor of the sperm being used as face cream is funny but totally unfounded.
Another scary story is that at the drag queen parties of the 1980s and 1990s, for Christmas, often the men were coerced into dressing up as celebrity females including Dolly Parton and Madonna, but that when someone named Kevin did this as Cindi Lauper he really looked the part. I was not there. I could not say.
Then there was Romancercize, if only I had been there for that, around 1996, where everyone dressed in bright leotards and pretended to couple and rub each other in the guise of partner yoga. This directly led to the April 1997 story because they never found release, allegedly, as it was never officially aired.
The horror of those nights were never go away for at least some students. One ex student, who we will call Kay, contacted my friend and alleged that a instructor she was paired with had a constant boner, but not for her, ha.
And why did they never have a female lecture on being horny? Trust me, girls get horny. Ha.
Excuse me, but later I should drive by Albrae and stick out my tongue at the school again from my car. Lol. On Halloween. In costume. Maybe this year I will wear my friend's training dobok for Halloween. Ha. It smells awful and has been hanging in his closet for years. The cologne just won't come out. Ha. It would be two sizes too big so maybe not.
Maybe I should go as a COL cultie and run around Wal Mart here in Fremont screaming about all the Ki energy from the lights I see, and all the costumes and the energy coming off them. Lol. I've seen that. It was a cultie. She was like tripping. But you all don't want to have what she was on. :)
Cya later.
Note, I would have only been about 4 in 1997 so no I wasn't there.

Former Jung SuWon cult member speaks at mountain retreat
An anonymous former member of the Jung Suwon Academy for over a dozen years spoke out at a religious camping retreat to a crowd of about 14, and onlookers. The former instructor didn't name any of the participants in the cult, as to be anonymous, but did say that it was and he got a cult vibe only after he was a black belt for a few years. He said that after a while they began making Grandmaster out as some kind of god, and this did not go with what he was taught in the evangelical church. Eventually he got a feeling it was a cult and that God told him to leave immediately one night, just as they were leaving to go to another city. He did not specify which city. Having been there for over a dozen years, the former instructor did know they had done other shady deals, but was not specific what things they did. The cult came as a surprise to him. Her was very direct about it and did not seem upset. The irony was that for black belt testing he also had been on a mountain retreat. When asked if they were doing drugs, he said no. When asked if they were all gone now, he said no. They have relocated to another city.
This goes to show that there are others who are speaking out about the cult and that there is even now a percentage of ex students and even former black belts, who are ballsy enough to speak out. He siad he earned the black belt. He just didn't want the new people to fall into such a trap, and wanted them to research schools if they wishes to train, and not let the guru change them and make them do things that were not of God. He did not specify what those things were. He wasn't asked about it.
Since he still referred to her as 'Grandmaster' this is presumed to have been before she became a great grandmaster.
We have no idea who this guy actually was in 2011, posting some of the Bullshido stuff at random, and later a web site on YouTube called HellaKittyKai, but we pretended we knew.

The True Origins of a Ki Master
Excerpted from the files of the anonymous exer who we shall call here Grendel.
Just The Origin of Tae Yun Kim
Tae Yun Kim claimed to have an aged monk for a master, who trained her. Several students have asked her who he was and where he was from, but she has never told them his name. She reportedly trained from 1952 to 1965 and then came to the US in 1970. If it was only 13 years, then how did she become a master in such short a time? Her people have not provided an answer because to them, they firmly believe the old master story. They have been told the story so much they believe it without question.
Shadow Dancer said, “I am curious about the earliest years with Art Fontaine. Specifically I would like to find some evidence that either proves/disproves her being a 'Bar-girl' when Art found her in Korea. When I trained in Vermont, the senior instructors would allude to her being a member of the CIA, or having influence with some intelligence organization. That was also the time she claimed to be an 8th degree Aikido practitioner.”
Neither Kim or Fontaine were in the CIA as if you are in the CIA you never discuss that with anyone. Maybe they thought they were ninjas.
The former student called clarehoare is Jacob Hunter, which is an alias Kim placed on him, or renamed him some time ago. Both Jacob and clare will be used also.
Then clarehoare said, “I think I explained this in the past. They had a school together, Kyong Ae Academy, it burned down (shadow dancer, help here?), and then TYK started ATC separate. ATC eventually became JSW. My understanding and I'm quoting a source “he took his frustration with his sister out on us students”. As I am sure you have found he is now the proprietor of Moo Gong Do.”
But Shadow Dancer said… Kim has two sisters: one who is never mentioned, and the other whom she claims is 5th degree black belt. After having met her, I believe that claim to be rather outlandish. Kim claims that her sister's first marriage ended due to spousal abuse. We joined post-barbecue, so I don't know the earlier stories. I believe the Kyong-Ae Academy was started in White River Junction. We joined when it was already the ATC.”
Michael Gatov speculated on the origins of Tae Yun Kim, who began as Kyung Ae Fontaine in Vermont. He claims that she made up the story about the master who trained her in the mountains, based on no record of his name has ever been found or provided, or of his location, to verify his authenticity.
Shadow Dancer (Michael) said, “Well, as much as I would like the world to know what she did for a first profession, I would rather they first learn about her actual training, who her instructor was, and what her actual rank was. This goes to the very heart of her credibility. The rest of the info is delicious icing on the cake. But if the world learns and sees documentation about her real rank and training, nothing she says can spin this to her favor, and all other stuff just piles it on afterwards. Cheers, Shadow.”
“Well, she claims she was trained by a Buddhist priest. She talks about the severe persecution she faced from her parents for training. She talks about all the sacrifices she made to her master. So... who was her 'master'? Did she face any persecution? What were her 'real' sacrifices?
“I think the biggest revelation that should be broadcast is that she lied about the 'master in the mountains' training shtick. She was trained in Tang Soo Do along with her husband. As such, she has no claim to the title “Grandmaster” or even “Master”, except with her awarding herself those titles in a slightly modified form she created. But long before it was Jung Suwon, it was TKD, and she fraudulently used the titles since she can't produce documentation showing any MA federation tested or sanctioned her, if the information on the web page is accurate.”
Failed Student, who we will call Julie for clarity, is a former student of Tae Yun Kim before she called herself that. Back then, Kim was Kyung Ae Fontaine, and she lived in Vermont with her army husband, Arthur Fontaine, and trained with her brother in martial arts.
Kyung Ae Fontaine, as she was known prior to 1989, was a practitioner of Tae Kwon Do, according to her various books and two web sites, and former and active students. She originally settled with her husband, Art Fontaine and her family in Vermont, where her stories began, in more ways than one.
Chicabonita, Sandra daughter of Michael, former black belt COL student, said, “I wanted to say one more thing about the Bible. Many times in COL and JSW class she told us that if her master were to have written a book, it would have been exactly like the Bible. She said it in her own words. “My master was a Buddhist monk, but he was ahead of his time. If he could write a book, he would have written the Holy Bible, exactly how it is written today."
Juliana, (mother of Jacob) former COL student and JSW student spoke out, as jdms, “I never really believed that. But now it seems as if there were really no master after all.
“These are the types of lies that bother me the most. She fabricated a whole history between her and her Master that evidently from the records and people who have spoken up, didn't ever exist. If she lied about her foundation....there is nothing I believe now. Her entire world and perceived existence is a fabrication and that is what I hope the present COL members or any possible future members hear the most.
Then a former student from Vermont called Failed Student commented on the story, confirming the two uncles from her stories, training her, but not the master.
Failed student said, “I never heard about her Buddhist master. It was the story of watching her two uncles training that she told here. I did get the Howard Johnson's toilet story, and then she said she sold cars and was their best salesperson. As far as her rank when I started with her, I believe she said she was fifth dan. Then some diminutive Buddhist monk came to visit the temple, overstayed his welcome, and somehow she became a grandmaster by the time he left. I never saw her test, if indeed she did, so we all took it on faith she was a grandmaster.”

I never saw her test, if indeed she did, so we all took it on faith she was a grandmaster.”
This moment apparently occurred in 1982, suggesting that before then Kyung Ae Kim was not a grandmaster, until this old man came and ‘tested’ her, but really there was no official testing presented to her students. One day she was suddenly ‘officially’ a grandmaster.
Failed Student said, “Hello again Chicabonita - KAF did tell me the story of seeing her friend blown up in front of her, complete with all the details. Guts everywhere, and how they didn't have enough wood for a proper cremation.
“She didn't say anything about her parents abandoning her to me. What I heard is from a member of the Korean community here in Burlington...The family was fleeing. Her parents told her to hide behind some doors and to not come out until they told her to. Evidently they were running low on food and without her there would be one less mouth to feed. She didn't do as she was told, and came out in time to see them leaving without her, and caught up with them. So she wasn't abandoned.
“I want to tell you about an event that happened while I was still in her good graces. The senior students, KAF and myself went picnicking to a place called Rock Point, which is a retreat owned by the Episcopal Diocese. There is a rather high cliff which overlooks Lake Champlain. We were running around, having fun, and then she said, referring to the cliff...”When they come after us, we will all join hands and jump off together”. I don't know who they were, nor what she was running from, but it struck me as an odd thing to say. For this reason, I believe she is running a destructive cult, in the same fashion as Jim Jones. Maybe it won't be Kool-Aid, but it will be group suicide.
“One other thing - - and this addresses her sadistic side. She told me when she had the do jang in southern Vermont, she had an outstanding student. I will only use his last initial - - J. He tested for black belt and excelled, yet she denied him the promotion. She told me she saw the bitter disappointment in his eyes. She related this to me with absolute relish.
“Maybe in her mixed up mind, she was testing him on some other plane - testing his loyalty to her even though he did not get a promotion. That's a rotten thing to do to a kid. I guess eventually he got the promotion and kept on training with her.
bemused said, “Interesting find, WhiteBear. The Tae Kwon Do Hall of Fame website does list the 1978 Pre-World Games in Seoul, Korea. "Kyong Ae Fontaine" is listed as the manager of the US team, not the coach as she claimed to be. Most of the other info centers on Marcia Hall, the middleweight champion at that tournament. She and teammate Sunny Graf were the only non-Korean women to win. If most of the winners were young Korean women, the prejudice against women training in martial arts could not have been as intense as TYK said it was.”
Failed Student said, “Sunny Graf is a legitimate martial artist, and was part of the NWMAF group to which I belonged and participated in their annual seminar.”
WhiteBear said, “True it was the participants who were in the spotlight then, not her, which is how it should have been.
“Wonder why she didn't compete in the competitions herself, she was young enough. Has she competed with anyone? I only remember hearing of the story when she "sparred" with SHS and "tapped" him resulting in a huge "energy" knot on his head which she then "healed". I'm sure you recall that story as well, it was used as the reason TYK never sparred with anyone again because she might accidentally hurt them real bad. I didn't ever see any film of her sparring, all pictures and film were of her "energy" demonstrations or the staged take downs used in the "Way of the Warrior" series.
Shadow and Failed Student you were both there back in the day...did you see TYK spar? Just curious.
“Wow Bemused! Did that paragraph describe who and what I think it did? The group's "controversial backstage behavior"? Indeed. Now there is an understatement. She managed to wiggle out of that one. …”
Rossanna Cui, a former Lighthouse employee, said, “As with everything there are always two sides to every story, her version, and everyone else’s. Whether she worked in the base as a legit employee or outside the base as hospitality girl is immaterial considering that her current story is as far from the truth as you can get.
“Looking at how her version of her past evolved is interesting. If you compare the version she told failed student to the one that was revealed in cultmaster, she went from working outside the base to inside it, from a senior officer helping the couple get hitched to the military being against it, from landing in Seattle then moving to Vermont to landing in Omaha then moving to Vermont. She edited but did not stray too far from the truth. I suspect that at this point in her life, she lacked the experience and sophistication as well as the ego to come up with as an outrageous a story as she did later on.
“As she evolved, so did the story of how she got her start in the US. Below is an excerpt from American Fitness Magazine March 1994 Issue
“"Banned and ostracized from any formal participation in the martial arts, Kim said good-bye to her family and left Korea at 24, arriving in America, landing in Vermont and supporting herself by scrubbing kitchens in Howard Johnson restaurants for three years. Learning one sentence of English, "My name is Kim, and I want to be your friend," she decided to overcome loneliness by finding at least one new friend by knocking on every door within a New England neighborhood.
“Her early years in America are filled with stories of taking risks, making mistakes, and learning from them and moving on to the next challenge. Amazing goals and gruesome challenges are the primary fuel for this never-say can’t, energetic woman. The greater the challenge, the more she derives strength from it, always overcoming it. "I love it if someone tells me 'No, you can't do that.'" I can feel my ki rise in the face of it."
“She was told she couldn't teach within the school system in the Untied States because she held no credentials. But that didn't stop her from talking with every school board member and principal in her county, convincing them to allow her to bring her lively demonstration of self-esteem and personal empowerment to the kids in local elementary and high schools. Eventually her programs were instituted at the University of Vermont, and she received recognition from state officials and local mayors.
“She was told it was one thing to practice tae kwon do in the United States. But no woman is allowed to compete or bring her talents back to Korea. Again, hearing the word no seemed to trigger a defiant, unstoppable energy within Kim, an energy that drove her along destiny's path. Finally, it was time to encounter the patriarchy that dominated her native soil. She traveled to Korea for a world competition after several years in the United States, and was told she was not allowed to compete because she was a woman. Striding out to the center of the mat in a huge auditorium filled with male masters, judges and competitors, she withstood the deafening boos and jeers of the crowd. Summoning up all the ki in her diminutive frame, she raised her arms and yelled, "Silence, please. You will act like gentlemen!" This command stunned the auditorium and the insults stopped. Kim proceeded with her demonstration and at the end of the test received a respectful applause. She was granted the first master status for a woman from the Tae Kwon Do World Federation."
“Please take note of the following:
1) There is no mention of the base, the husband, the family and the sales job, just a supposed job at Howard Johnson’s scrubbing toilets.
2) She knew only one sentence in the English language " "My name is Kim, and I want to be your friend,” then proceeds to say that she attempted to enter the US school system as a teacher by talking to the school boards and principals in her country.
If she knew only one sentence in English, what made her think she could teach in schools whose primary language is English and how did she manage to speak to school boards and principals?
3) She went to a world competition in Korea and wowed a bunch of male masters, judges and competitors by commanding their silence and proceeding with her demo.
When? What was the event? I don't think that this is something that happens a lot in events like this so you would think that there would be some record of this somewhere, a story told by one who was there? (Aside from her of course)
4) "She was granted the first master status for a woman from the Tae Kwon Do World Federation." I did a search on this and didn't find any organization with this name. Is this supposed to be the WTF? If so, why hasn't anyone ever seen anything to prove this, a piece of paper, cert, anything. I would think that if she is so proud that she would tell the story, she would definitely hang up or display the proof of this for everyone to see.
“So many questions, yet still no answers....
“Back to the theory on the evolution of Kim. When you read the testimony of people from Vermont and compare it to those from California, there is an obvious change in Kim. The experiences of those in CA are harsher, more devastating, more intrusive and definitely more abusive on several levels. It seems that as time passed, her delusions of grandeur grew, as did her dark side. I do not discount the experiences of those that came in the earlier days, but I have to say that if anyone can be considered lucky in these circumstances, the earlier batches had it, and if this theory has even a modicum of truth in it, then those that are still there are probably going through an existence comparative only to Dante's 9 Circles of Hell.
“"Abandon all hope, ye who enter here"”
clarehoare said, “Honestly, if she came in via military transport, Omaha would make much more sense, as they have an AFB... Things may have been different then, but point of fact, Seattle has no military base, Ft Lewis to the south (a bit south of Tacoma (for the army, and Navy to the north in Everett... So actually landing in Omaha would make sense, considering the sprawling air force base... of course there may have been a military base in Seattle then, or the information on CM could have been speaking in generalities of the region.”
bemused said, “So TYK is a third-degree black belt with a TSD/MDK background. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. If it's not stratospherically impressive, it's at least solid. Before I started training at ATC, soon to become Jung Suwon, I looked around at other schools. At the time, the quality of instruction at ATC/JSW seemed on par with that of other schools, despite the skittle belts (and later skittle uniforms). The question has persisted in my mind: Why couldn't TYK just settle for being a decent martial arts teacher?
“I think the answer is this: to have the kind of power she wanted, she had to convince people she was superhuman. She had to meet every challenge to her authority with, "You have earthly view, I have satellite view." Although I rather doubt her "master" stories as she tells them, some exposure to religious authority might have given her the idea to use it herself.
“She seems to think that being God-like justifies any abuses. But the opposite is true: any abuses contradict her being God-like.”
“I have heard so many stories from the two of them, I don't know WTF to believe. Art said he worked for the CIA...a lie no doubt, since one does not speak of this ...ever...if they are employed by that agency.”

Still had no idea who StarFairy was at the time.
This was not from a master black belt at the school, but from the COL people pretending to be one of them.

A Curt Reply from a COL Leader
Dear Michael and your friends:
You are barking up the wrong tree, Mike (last name withheld). I'd like to tell you how utterly frustrating your web site is to us. We cannot get you to stop posting erroneous stuff about Dr. Grandmster Tae Yun Kim. You will continue to do so. Your Grandmaster might not forgive you and your friends for this outrage, although it is a free country, so you may continue.
As we've said to your friends many times on other blogs, and here, what we do in our personal lives is our business, not yours. If you get off from looking up our twitters and Facebook accouts, and sifting through archived posts we've deleted, then we can't stop you.
I don't deny having some lonely times in Asia and aboard, and that I sought the company of call services. So what. It's none of your business. It wasn't just me anyway. We don't need to go into who.
It was Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore...and Korea. But so what. It is none of your business.
The marriages in the group mean nothing to me, and I'm one of the married ones. Hah. I don't care what she thinks, or what my wife thinks if she read this. I outrank her and I have a busiiness. Nobody can stop that. I don't care what you think. So long as you stop making fun of Dr. Grandmaster Kim eventually.
So what if we have a cultural difference where a dozen of us run things in the cleanroom monitoring field. That isn't so unusual.
You didn't train long enough to get the benefits of being with Great Grandmaster as long as we. Someday we instructors plan to replace her. When we do, we will be great.
I don't expect you to print this on your silly blog. You might though. I don't care as I'm rigfht and you're wrong.
And as far as I know, sex education was not on the venue at yong sa nation.
Truly yours, name withheld
