bemused said, “When Tae Yun wants to recruit someone, she gets all of COL to be nice to that person. When I started training, two of the women, ES (then GG) and JC (then DP), were especially nice to me. I found out later that neither really liked me; they thought I was a know-it-all. Tae Yun herself thought I was a slut because I was single and (gasp!) dating, but she told me I had a special destiny with her. If I hadn't been so hungry for friendship, if I had seen behind the smiles, I probably wouldn't have trained for very long at her school. I don't think anyone really liked me until I was sufficiently indoctrinated, at which point I was at least tolerated.
“Ironically, when I've joined other groups before and since, I haven't necessarily gotten along with everyone, but I haven't been judged as harshly either. Most people take other people's quirks in stride, especially in the Bay Area where there are many viewpoints and lifestyles. Tae Yun pretends to give "unconditional love" and not to judge, but her love is highly conditional on admiration of her and she finds fault with everyone except herself. The COL members tend to take on this attitude as well.
“I don't think Tae Yun knows how to be a friend. Someone always has to dominate. If it isn't her it must be the other person, so it has to be her. She can't even let her COL students be equals. She's always ranking them in some way or another, by belt or by loyalty to her. As others have pointed out, even in her married couples the wives call their husbands "Sir."”
Failed Student said, “Wait, wait - just how did GG and DP become ES and JC? This is perplexing, grasshopper. Do you get new names when you "Leave It To Beaver"?
“I think the name change is required to totally break from one's past, and to lose one's identity as one assimilates into the Borg like existence within COL.
“I only knew that Tae Yun Kim had changed her name from Kyong Ae Fontaine when I noticed an ad in Black Belt magazine many years ago. Tae Yun was hawking her Seven Steps book and even though she changed her name, she still looked the same. Of course, in her case, I think she was also trying to avoid legal problems.
“Back here in Vermont, I was for a very short time part of their Buddhist temple, and noticed that many members had Buddha names - something concocted from their time and place of birth. Scott had the name San Am. I know Michael F. had one too but I forgot what it was. In any event, I left before I got that involved.
“It seems Scott and Michael F. are the only ones that haven't changed their names in California. I wonder why.”
Failed said, “The original ATC logo - a large center Yin Yang with six smaller yin yangs encircling it and connected by rods - kind of like the old Tinker toys - symbolized just that connection. Scott, WHH, Michael F., RLL, and myself were all those little yingies and I guess there was a spare one. Of course, her majesty was the center biggie.
“We all ate together, although not myself that much. Tae Yun had a round table, kind of like King Arthur I guess, only this was inlaid lacquer. I guess because of my frequent absences from this table, I probably held the "siege perilous". Okay, if you don't know your Arthurian legends, Google that.
Failed Student said, “ A little more on Tae Yun keeping a connection with all of us in her Vermont era - We had to give her our schedules, so she could reach us anytime, anywhere. We were supposed to drop everything and come running when and if she summoned us. She had a big mother of a Buick, and the inner circle rode with her.
“When we went out to have a bite after training or other times, everyone ordered the same food. (Except me - I am a coffee drinker and can't stand tea. I also preferred coffee ice cream to the crappy pie they usually ordered.)
“When we did some early morning training before opening ATC, we all had to ride together to the training place an abandoned quarry. I did not live with the others and my home was close by the quarry, but no, I had to drive way out to Madame’s house and ride with the others.
“They ordered some sports jackets and I found myself forced into buying one. I didn't want it, it looked ridiculous with this huge ATC logo on the back, and I never wore it out in public. The moment I got suspended I took off the logo and burned it. Then the jacket was at least passable in public.
“Scott had some key chains with an oversize plastic attachment into which he inserted Madame’s picture and then sold us the thing for about four bucks. I didn't want one and didn't buy one. Fortunately, they ran out and so they couldn't lean on me to buy one.
“Scott had a picture of Madame reproduced and gave us all a copy. It was about an 8x10. I didn't want that either, and along with other stuff with her "energy", relegated it to the basement closet. There's more, but you get the picture.”
Failed said, “She always wanted there to be hot sauce and maple syrup available to her wherever she went. In her cooking - when she did such a menial task - - she would add incredible amounts of garlic to everything, and when I went to her house, you could smell the stuff a block away. Don't get me wrong, I like garlic, but in moderation, like everything. Anyhow, all that garlic did a job on one's digestion, and her inner circle constantly were breaking wind as a result. I remember one situation in which we were all riding for a few hours to get to Bradley Field, an airport. All the way down, the car stank from human gas, and when it was overbearing, they would open the window for a few moments to let out some of the worst of it.
“The same happened in the dojang, which was not all that large. They kept the windows closed, and her inner circle had no qualms about letting nature express itself.”
Kathy said, “Many have left col recently, but which one's have really left.? Tae Yun has everyone doing the crazy two step. One step forward, two steps back. If you are a liability, maybe she makes it look like you are gone. There is a method to her madness. She can't even truly trust her senior instructors, as senior instructors have left. Maybe someone is just too tired to continue being her fall guy. col is not an easy life. No one trusts anyone completely. She is who you should not trust. Are you on her ax list. Why are there things she hasn't told you. Could you now be liable for what she has really done. Is she setting you up so should you leave she has stuff on you? Gosh you might even be eligible for immunity!”
Kathy Kim said, “As most know, She is a Legend in her own Mind!”
Failed said, “Her knowledge of even her own body was abominable. She asked me about menopause, since she did not seem to grasp the concept of it. I explained to her at what age range it usually occurred etc. Apparently even in those days she was fearing age and the bodily changes accompanying it.
“This woman is vain to the extreme. While she did not have massive plastic surgeries in Vermont, she spent an inordinate amount of time doing her makeup. Of course, she was still relatively young here and had a good figure. She did have breast implants though, and if she hugged you, you could tell that, because they didn't give at all, and a natural breast is soft and pliant. I would imagine she's had them changed a few times over the years and probably with all the plastic surgery that goes on in California, they are more natural these days.”
Failed Student said, “I know for a fact that she (Kim) had young children share a bed with her. I can and will name names if it comes to that. These children also knew right from wrong, and in one instance, the young boy called his father to come and take him home.
“What bothers me is that Tae Yun is trying to have her students believe that what is so way outside of normal behavior is the norm. This is brainwashing. This also leads to aberrant behavior later in life by these young victims. I have put in several years as a volunteer with victims of abuse, so I know this to be the case, having seen it first hand.”
bemused said, “It's worth noting that many of the new names Tae Yun gives students are from actors or characters in movies or TV. One student even changed his name to Paul Newman, as noted in the Inside Edition segment. Additional names from movies and TV are Maguire (Jerry Maguire), Carrington (Dynasty), June (Joy Luck Club), Anderson (Matrix), and Sarah (Terminator). Other possibilities are Chamberlain (as in Richard), Sommers (as in Suzanne), Jessica (as in Lange), Carson (as in Johnny), and Kevin (as in Kline or Bacon).
“One of the kids (Chica?) once asked Tae Yun a challenging question after a COL class in which she showed and talked about a movie: "How can Hollywood people make movies with messages about energy if they don't know what you know about energy?" In her answer Tae Yun said something about them using their subconscious minds. But this doesn't explain it, because if the movie gets made, at some point the "wisdom" has to become conscious.””
Her Lesson said, “It is as obvious as the nose on anyone’s face that she is a phony. Maybe the COL'ers like to play make-believe or are rejected actors or like to be abused, because I certainly don't understand what keeps them there or maybe they are just SAD, sad people.”
bemused said, “All I have to say is yeah right. She claims that she never talks about anyone that leaves her environment but that is a huge lie. I have been in countless classes where she says nasty things about people, and then turns around and asks "We don't talk about anyone after they leave, right ?" to which her COL students would reply in unison "No, Ma'am, we never talk about anyone" Ha ha-ha
“Tae Yun insults people both coming and going. New people who aren't instantly with the program get talked about too. During my time, this included kids, such at Chica and AT, who had minds of their own: she called them devil children. This included skeptical spouses, such as HC before COL: she called them small-minded and worse. This included regular martial arts students with attitudes, such as BB before COL: Tae Yun said BB was some kind of tyrant in a past life.
“Tae Yun views anyone who merely doesn't like her or disagrees with her as Satan's spawn. Even her enemies have to be special.”
Failed Student said, “And because she can lure so many people into her trap, I guess she's a Master Baiter too.”
bemused said, “Damn funny. Wish I'd thought of it. That's the biggest problem with Tae Yun. Her grandiosity would get her nowhere if she couldn't convince other people to obey her. And she's very good at finding the "bait" that works for each person.”
Failed Student said, “That's how every con artist works. Most often, it's the promise of something better in life that's the bait - and it works. As P.T. Barnum stated.. '"there's a sucker born every minute". That's why I consider religions to be cults for the most part too. They promise some reward in the hereafter, and people are so desperate, they go for it. As Karl Marx stated - "religion is the opiate of the masses".”
Chicabonita said, “Another thing you should watch sometime is her putting lipstick on other female COL members. If that person doesn't have naturally full lips, Tae Yun Kim will actually take the lip liner and draw a lip line outside of the person's lips. And then just pile the red lipstick in.”
bemused said, “Oh how I hated that! She tried to give me clown lips on several occasions. To some extent I accepted the eye shadow and bright colors she wanted us to wear, but I wouldn't go out in public with clown lips. And I'm not as thin-lipped as she said I was, either.
“My hubby is a professional artist, and he says my lips are average in thickness. But even being thin-lipped isn't the end of the world; it didn't hurt Sigourney Weaver.
“Tae Yun also didn't like my pale skin. She wanted me to wear foundation several shades darker than my natural skin color, so I looked like I was wearing a mask. Wearing foundation wasn't good for my oily skin. When I left COL, I discovered that the women around me wore light makeup or no makeup. I proceeded to do the same. It's not easy having Celtic pallor and Mediterranean pores, such is my genetic luck, but I've found that the solution is to wear light powder instead of foundation, if I wear makeup at all. No more fake tans!
“I have medium-dark brown hair, and Tae Yun thought this was boring. I tried various cuts and perms that she urged but was unwilling to change the color drastically, only tinting slightly darker or slightly auburn. A Jamie Lee Curtis type short cut looked sort of cute on me, but a poodle cut looked ridiculous. Spending all that money on my hair while making so little wasn't easy. I've gone back to what my hair does best, which is to hang long and straight. All I do is get it trimmed twice a year.
“Then there was my figure. I sometimes joke, "I do have an hourglass figure, it's just that most of the sand is at the bottom." Tae Yun thought a top-heavy figure was more attractive and was harping on me to lose weight. But even when very thin I still have hips. I sure wish I'd known that her top-heavy figure was paid for.
“The first time Tae Yun gave me a makeover, I complained in my journal that she was trying to take away my identity. I also had the nerve to state that other people had told me I was very attractive and that I didn't need all this. I was a fairly new full-time COL member at the time. She called me out in the next COL class for my lack of "trust" of course. And my vanity! Was that ever the pot calling the kettle black! Her wanting to make me over (along with the other COL females) continued to be a point of conflict over the years."
Her Lesson said “Does anyone know if Jan Adams was really her plastic surgeon or was it just a rumor?”
She’s a bit pricey, but in her prime she could have afforded it.
bemused said, “Tae Yun has been running the same scam all her life, charging Westerners to get screwed by her and then sending the money to her family. And for too long I was one of her "customers."
“Fortunately I left COL in time to continue my career and found a good job right away. As people stay in COL longer and get older, catching up financially after leaving gets harder, especially with no job reference for years of work and lots of debt.
“From the posts I've seen and what I've been able to observe, Tae Yun doesn't allow anyone to leave COL with any assets except a car, which she does not provide. I'll bet that if any of the senior instructors tried to leave with any assets, Tae Yun would sue them like she did Adam G.”
Bemused said, “I used to hear so many complaints against them while I was still there in COL class in front of them. If that what was said about them in public, think about they must all feel behind their backs. If Scott and Michael F. think that people actually like following their lead then they are not in touch with Reality.
“I always liked Michael F.. He was a good teacher and a nice person. And I say this having never had a crush on him like I did two other instructors who left. He could be tough sometimes, but I have no lingering issues with him. In fact, he probably helped me more in Jung Suwon class than any other instructor.
“Scott is cold. Maybe he lacks social skills. Maybe he lacks empathy. Or maybe my personality clashed with his and I just didn't come to see his good side. He reminds me of some of the engineers I work with, who are so task-oriented that they lack the human touch.
“I can't imagine either one taking Tae Yun's place. Tae Yun can size people up and tell them what they want to hear. She's a good actress and can create an aura of mystery around herself. And she's has no moral qualms to hold her back. Michael F. has more personal charm than Scott, but he doesn't have the shrewdness, acting ability, or shamelessness that the guru role requires. And that's a compliment.”
Kathy said, “I never joined COL for spiritual matters or answers. I joined because I thought that we were all working together to help people. Not to help ourselves, but to help others.
“To help ourselves grow, we would have more people that we would be able to help. When you are in her cult, she makes you think that you are helping others when in fact it was to line her pockets.
“Her ideals, that she said she was trying to teach us, was a snow job. She doesn't care about anyone but her. I just wonder how she convinces the people in COL now that the people that they looked up to, were like brother and sister to, that they are suddenly bad? There wasn't and isn't a bad bone in WHH. What does she say there? Same with David, BBE, Hang Ta, Plus remember the Daniel Johnson award? How many received that? That was in honor of him, and all he did to help everyone. I don't care how people look. I care about their hearts and their intentions. What is wrong IS when you have people pray for you because you say you have cancer and in fact you are having plastic surgery. How little you must really feel inside to have to use all these lies. How you must really feel unloved.
“This thread is about your lies, all the deceit, and to make people aware of all that has gone on. It's a very emotional thread. People have bared their hearts and their stories of what has happened to them and to others.
“I believe that the name calling, the joking, helps to lesson the pain of those that have felt and still feel the effects of what you have done to their lives and others. It does not lessen the evil and the emotional, financial, physical abuse that many have endured.
“Thank you again Bullshido for allowing all to post here.”
Her Lesson said, “Isn't he the one who got a new hair piece? My goodness, they are all becoming fake!”
bemused said, “Jacob said, You're doing him a favor. [Mark] is a dick for many more reasons than that.
Bemused said, “Those of you who were children in COL probably saw sides to the instructors and senior students that the adults never saw. And I have no idea what the male instructors and senior students were like to live with (except for CA, and I only shared a hotel room with him a few times in Asia).
“I've been hesitant to come down too hard on senior COL students because, whether they admit it or not, they are victims like us or worse. There have been allegations in this thread that Sarah K. and Mark were beaten.
bemused said, “A recent study demonstrated that homophobia and repressed homosexual feelings are related in men, but for women the picture isn't as clear. Even women who identify as solidly heterosexual and not homophobic respond to sexual stimuli of all kinds.
“Tae Yun has made many homophobic remarks. One COL student has a lesbian history and at one point confessed an attraction to another female COL student. Tae Yun disciplined her pretty harshly.
“But when this same student confessed to wanting to "just hold" Tae Yun, Tae Yun didn't get upset. During one of Tae Yun's "makeover" sessions, another student was wearing a suit with no blouse under it, showing lots of cleavage, and Tae Yun not only approved but seemed fascinated.
“It could be that, with both women and men, Tae Yun doesn't want anyone to be attracted to anyone except her.
“Showering people with attention and gifts is Tae Yun's way of buying goodwill. It doesn't necessarily imply an attraction. But I wouldn't rule it out.”
bemused said, “Chica - I don't think Tae Yun "predicts" anything beyond making some shrewd guesses. She just knows about betrayals first most of the time. Her "predictions" are just her way of preparing other COL students for a member's departure. And "everyone deserves a chance" is just a rationalization for why she doesn't succeed in keeping everyone under her control.”
Failed Student said, “Wow! I went away for a few days and it took me quite some time to read through all the new posts. I went to a family affair in Massachusetts this past weekend, and since it was not too far away from the events, prevailed upon Adam (sic: not sure if this is Giandomenico) to let me stay at his home.
“Although I did not get a chance to meet with him, I met with his staff. He seems to be doing quite well without Dragon Lady and I feel he will continue to grow exponentially now that he is out of Lighthouse and the cult.
“Adam has a nice home, and all you COLies should have that same opportunity for material comforts. You deserve better than what you have.
“Why should you be sharing rooms, or sleeping on floors, eating poorly, and be dead broke. When are you people going to wake up?
“The family event I went to was a Bat Mitzvah. I have never been to one, nor have I ever been in a temple.
“My impressions were very positive. From the moment I set foot inside, I was welcomed, even though I am a practicing Christian, am only distantly related, being third and fourth cousins to them. I was impressed by the bonding of the family, the love shared, the joy at my cousin's rite of passage. The participation of parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. showed me that one's blood family is what is most important in life. That is what keeps our civilization somewhat together.
“I want to address this post to Scott. I know you were brought up in the Jewish faith, and vestiges of that upbringing remain with you. You too must have had a Bar Mitzvah and been part of that community, yet you gave up the richness of that culture, you destroyed the fabric of your family - all to follow that koorva. Deep down I don't think you are happy, and I don't know if your parents are still alive, but certainly you must have some relatives. Why not contact them, why not turn away from this Lilith and make something of your life? There is still time.
Rossanna said, “Chica, your anger is understandable and to a certain degree even justified, unfortunately, in spite of you pouring your heart out here in this forum, the chances of your mom having a change of heart about her (or rather Tae Yun's) opinions about you and the others who have turned their backs on her "mission" is close to nil. I may not have been in a cult but parents don't have to be in cults to make mistakes or completely screw up when dealing with their kids. Neither you nor I came with instruction manuals at birth so the rents' had to make it up as they went along. Unfortunately, yours encountered an individual that took advantage of whatever circumstances your parents where in at the time and they ended up in a place that I'm sure that they never dreamed they would be.
“I am not making excuses, just trying to show you that your circumstances, though unique is some ways, is actually pretty common in others. In any case, what matters now is that you find ways to move on and away from what has always been a constant in your life since you were 4, Tae Yun Kim.
“Though it may anger her when you write about your experiences and reveal the truth about the monstrous creature that lives in that "little old lady (?)"it also gives her a feeling of power over you. After all, all that anger means that she still has some sort of hold over you. Ever heard of the saying "hate is akin to love?" "There is a thin line between love and hate?" From your posts, I surmise that when your mom stopped paying any attention to you, and Kim constantly talked about being a "family", as a child who needed her mother, you turned to Kim for that "motherly" love and didn't get it. For all intents and purposes, you were rejected not only by your real mother, but by her replacement as well. You know what? It happens. It hurts like a bitch, but it happens. Friedrich Nietzsche said, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger. ", and I truly believe this to be the case. Just look at all that run the gauntlet of Kim and survived?
“I think that the first step to healing yourself would be to accept that your mom has made her choice just as you have made yours.
“She has chosen Kim and you have chosen Chica, as well you should. To accept that your mom has seen it fit to choose a nutcase like that over you and your brother may be one of the most difficult things you may ever do but know that her choice is not a reflection on you and the potential you have to be a better person than she is or can ever hope to be. It is almost as if your mom as you knew her is no longer there (think Invasion of the Body Snatchers) , and has been replaced by a parody of person molded and shaped by Kim into her vision of what a follower should be. Accept her as she is now, love her if you will but know that that love is dedicated to the memory of what your mom was and not what she currently is. If she is lucky, maybe one day, she will wake up from her trancelike state to find that her family still awaits the moment that she comes to her senses, failing that, sad to say she may wake to find that you have all moved on and lived better lives and she would have missed all the milestones she could have been a part of had she taken a different path.
“Revel in the fact that you got your father back and though he may have missed your growing years, is now a part of your life not just as your dad, but also as your friend and confidant. Try to see all that you suffered through when you were in the cult from the perspective that had Kim been good to you, you may still be there. Had she been a good surrogate mother, you would still be trapped and would not have had the opportunities to achieve what you have in your short time away from her or met people that turned out to become more important to you and your life than you ever thought possible.
“Let go of your anger, of your hurt and of your disappointments of what could have been, instead look towards what can still be. YOU are in control. (Sound familiar?) Learn from all that you saw, heard and experienced and know that the choices you make can affect not only you but the people around you. You have grown up with the perfect example of what NOT to be and what NOT to do. Take those experiences and cherish them as lessons in life on how to be human and humane. Always remember that all Kim is, is a result of her lashing out at people to punish them for perceived grievances she experienced as a child and as a person. The pain that life brings us has the power to make us better people or bitter people. The choice of being one or the other is always up to you.
“As with everything, there is a beginning and an end. The Alpha and the Omega. This time, more than any other time in all the years that Kim has flourished seems to be riddled with signs full of portent, an omen if you will of things yet to come. She is ending and you, all of you are just beginning. This, above all, is what preys on her mind in the quietest of times, when she is not surrounded by the adulation of her followers. She knows that her time is ending and her legacy, once so full of promise because of the façade she has maintained through the years, is crumbling and will in the end be nothing but ashes in her mouth and her name, one chanted by her followers over and over again, will merely be a punch line to a really bad joke. Peace.
bemused said, “While we're on the subject of cults and families, I thought I'd describe the effect of my involvement in COL on my family. Much of it I found out only after I left.
“I was offered membership in part-time COL, but wavered because of the money. In characteristic fashion, Tae Yun then withdrew the offer. I played right into her game, waiting on her front lawn hoping for a second chance, which I got. When I told Mom about this, she accused Tae Yun of being manipulative. Tae Yun then accused Mom of being small-minded.
“I thought that, once again, Mom had misunderstood me. Well, she probably did misunderstand my reasons for wanting to join COL. If she had understood, maybe she could have talked me out of it. But Mom understood Tae Yun much better than I did at that time. Meanwhile, I always respected Dad, and he might have been able to talk me out of it, but he was afraid to talk to me about it and didn't want to seem like he was questioning my judgment.
“For a year or two, whenever I saw Mom she threw around the word "cult," and whenever I was in COL class Tae Yun badmouthed my mom. Mom noted a few times that my speech patterns had become somewhat more militaristic, which bothered her. In a private class with Tae Yun I talked about my mom, and Tae Yun said I was putting Mom "on the same level" with her. She strongly implied that I couldn't "follow" both my mom and her.
“My mom had a change of heart when she had a severe health issue and had to face death. About COL and the martial art school, she pleaded, "I just want to share you with them." She and Tae Yun became less critical of each other after that. Meanwhile, Dad kept his thoughts about my activities to himself.
“I tried to see my family as little as possible, just enough to keep them from complaining. I kept them in sort of a holding pattern. I spent most Christmases with Tae Yun. When I got engaged to CA, Mom and Dad each met him once. I did have more contact with them when I was trying to sell the IDN and TPN network marketing products to build Tae Yun's empire, but I wasn't very successful. In fact, Dad got so upset over TPN that he almost disowned me. He said that I rarely spoke with him except to ask for money.”
Bemused said, “At Tae Yun's first book signing, a woman who was meeting Tae Yun for the first time asked me how studying with Tae Yun had helped me. I made the mistake of telling the truth.
“I said I was from a dysfunctional family, and that Tae Yun had helped me become more independent of my family. The woman found this disturbing and asked Tae Yun about it, and of course I heard all about it from Tae Yun later.
“To current COL members and people in similar groups, I say this: You have no idea how many people care about you and how much you are hurting them. But if you leave, you will be surprised at the amount of support you will get, even if your family isn't perfect.
“To friends and family of COL members and people in similar groups, I say this: Don't be too critical of the group. Don't go beyond saying, "It's not for me." Maintain contact as best you can. Try to resolve any old issues between you. Be a good listener. Ask what made them join and what makes them stay. When they're ready to leave, they'll know where to go for help.”
bemused said, “Failed Student - It's not stupidity, it's emotional vulnerability. When I joined, I was lonely and depressed. Everyone was SO friendly and Tae Yun told me I had a special destiny in her supposedly elite, altruistic group. I was 25 years old and I'll admit I was naive.
“Ironically, my intelligence made me more vulnerable. When I was in 2nd grade, tests determined that I performed at a 9th grade reading level and an 8th grade math level. All through school I didn't get along with other kids my age. My social skills suffered as a result. (Nowadays educational researchers realize that having smart kids skip grades is better for them socially as well as academically, but I digress.) I never had more than one or two similarly geeky friends at a time until college. So to belong to a group was very appealing, before I knew what the group was really like.
“Tae Yun couldn't break me either. My heart may have been weak, but ultimately my mind was too strong. Although I was quiet about it, I never stopped doubting and questioning what she said and did.
“As Chica has pointed out, at times I even made the "mistake" of trying to verbally defend myself when she set me up in the Humiliation Ritual. I've seen even very street-smart people get lured in, Adam G for example. Most current and former COL members are very bright. If they seem "dumb as bricks" as one poster has said, it's probably because obeying Tae Yun is interfering with their thinking.”
bemused said, “Part of the reason Tae Yun talks so much about people's bodies and bodily functions is because it is an invasion of privacy and a means of control. It is a clumsy way of presuming intimacy and undermining social conventions. It serves much the same purpose as getting people to confess their secrets and transgressions.
“It's also a way of hammering people where they're already sensitive. Most women (and many men) wish they looked better in some ways and are susceptible to the enticements of diet programs and gyms. She plays on the same insecurities, but with added cruelty.”
bemused said, “She thinks children are devils if they don't worship her the way her adult followers do. I've heard her say glowing things about children who admired her. I never saw any evidence that she was attracted to children. Because of her amoral nature there isn't much I would put past her, but I don't think we should be making accusations without evidence.”
Her Lesson said, “Tae Yun Kim now tells the story that she sent Scott out all by himself to find people to help him make the tape. When she told the story while I was in COL (her stories seem to change all the time) she said that she told Scott "Don't come home with out it." She says that Scott would beg her to come home, and she would firmly say no until the logistics of the Way Of The Warrior Series was worked out.
“Don't let her fool you into thinking it was just her, Michael F. and Scott involved.
“I am not sure if she edited out the tapes or not. But in those tapes there are other instructors involved DP, WHH and MM. Oh by the way, In the intro when the little kid was rolling on the mat, I was the one jumping over the buckets in the background.
“I was also involved around during the remodeling of the school with my parents. We helped knock the walls down with our own hands and feet to rebuild. We also hammered the nails in the floor. So many people were involved in her school and making things happen, people that she just dismisses after they leave.
“My sources tell me her marriage broke up because she was pregnant (not her by her husband). I believe there is more information on previous posts.”
bemused said, “Theoretically, senior students were supposed to be kind and humble toward their juniors and set a good example. But that's not how it actually worked. If you didn't respect your seniors and defer to them, at first you were given hints that you were out of line, and if you didn't take them, you would be treated "like dog food" as Shadow pointed out in a previous post. However, COL members, both men and women, were nice to beginning students, especially if they were being targeted for future COL membership.”
Failed Student said, “I think her ex probably had some stereotype idea about Asian women - shy, submissive, and obedient. At that time, there were few Asians in Vermont, so he brought home a rare specimen to our fair state.
“There is an expression - "when in Rome, do as the Romans do". It seemed to me that Tae Yun never really wanted to assimilate, and everything, from her outlandish dress style to her manner of teaching reflected that. She went out of her way to be different, and that was not looked upon kindly by Vermonters. It is true, as she asserted in some article, that Vermonters didn't understand meditation, and that was the reason she gave for moving to California. (Never mind that she had piled up a s’load of debts and made too many enemies to stay here). Not her kind of meditation anyway. I remember staring for what seemed an eternity at candle flames, trying to find something. Or the classes in which we stared at our image in the mirror for prolonged periods, trying to see auras or whatever. I never saw them, not in me, not in her. Guess I'm too down to earth.”
bemused said, “...COL couples can't have a relationship between themselves. They must communicate with Tae Yun Kim as to the details of their relationship. Tae Yun flat out told us in COL class many times that when my mom tried to talk to Scott about a problem, he would tell her that he didn't want to hear about it and that he should write to "Great Grandmaster" about it. This is not secret information as Tae Yun told us in COL class many times because they are her "model couple." She wants other COL couples to be like Scott and my mom.
“Intact couples with histories of real communication are too much of a risk for Tae Yun. They might compare notes and challenge her together. She only lets people pair up because she realizes that if she doesn't at least give people hope for a relationship they will leave when their desire for intimacy gets too strong. But she has to be careful not to permit too much intimacy.
“Scott is probably covering his own ass too. If he gave advice to ES that Tae Yun didn't agree with, he could get in trouble.”
Failed Student said, “What is unacceptable in Western society seems to be acceptable within the walls of COL. In my own experience with Tae Yun, I know she tried to set me up with some Korean guy so she could make some money off the deal. I was of no mind to go along with it, anymore than Chica allowed herself to get involved in one of these intramural arrangements.
“I wonder when common sense will kick in with her followers and they'll just hang it up, say "enough" and get out of there. Scott for example has been there since day one, and I've witnessed how Tae Yun has yelled at him, and apparently it still goes on out there, yet he sticks by her. Why does he allow himself to be pussy whipped by her?
“What kind of hold does she have on him that he gave up his family, a good job with a future and financial security, goes grudgingly into a marriage she sets up, and continues to be, along with everyone else there, a doormat for madame.
“I have to comment also on the women who were required to entertain visiting male guests, and did everything a "comfort woman" would do short of sleeping with the men. This is disgusting. Tae Yun, when you die, you should burn for all eternity in the hottest fires of Hell for your actions. You have so far exceeded the parameters of normal behavior in every facet of your life there will be no mercy for you. If you do believe in Karma, you should start rectifying your errors immediately.”
Failed Student said, “When in Vermont, they subsisted heavily on rice and ramen. That stuff is like McDonald’s - it tastes good but it's unhealthy in many ways. Starches break down quickly and convert to sugar, whereas proteins take longer to digest and last longer in the stomach so one does not get hungry as fast. So a rapid rise in blood sugar can lead to diabetes, and that is beginning to be epidemic in this country. Those in COL are not immune to this. If they're sitting at their desks seven days a week working and not getting exercise, they can't burn off the accumulated calories or lower their blood sugar.
“Adding KFC to their diet is not the way to go either. Fried foods are fat laden and zip up the cholesterol, the bad cholesterol.
“Of course, I am only commenting from a distance, but a person who eats a balanced diet, with fruits, raw vegetables, fiber, whole grains, lean meats, seafood, and dairy products, does moderate exercise, and gets a normal amount of sleep will not tend toward obesity. So COLers, if you don't want multiple health problems as you age, get your act together and start demanding that you be allowed to eat normally.”
Failed Student said, “Scott made up a lot of the rules and from what I hear he made up the price lists and made sure that the money was collected for Tae Yun Kim. He is behind a lot of things. If he were to leave, I bet that Tae Yun would expose the things he did and pin it all on him and claim that she had no prior knowledge. I have seen her do it to others. She is vindictive and I am sure Scott is probably well aware of that.
“One can always leave if one wants to. If more of her top echelon were to do so, Tae Yun would be so tied up in acts of vindictiveness that it would all come to nothing in the end. She would just burn out in the heat of her own wrath. Even she does not have limitless resources with which to legally pursue everyone that goes against her.
“Even if Scott, in his slavish devotion to Tae Yun is guilty of some illegal activity, he could throw himself on the mercy of the court if he were ever brought to trial. He could use the defense that she exerted undue influence which caused him to commit certain acts that may be in a gray area. He could also just turn states evidence.”
Chicabonita said, “I also wanted to add that if you are lucky once in a very blue moon you can see "this kind of scat in action" in her regular class.
“There was an instance where guy my age at the time (I was 15) was called up in the middle of class. We were all seated in a circle and she was yelling at him for looking at porn on the computer. I think it was gay porn. But anyway she was yelling at him and asked him to describe what he saw. Then she asked him what he did when he saw that too. She asked if he was masturbating to it. She was asking him why he did it and telling him things a long the line that what he was doing was part of the dark side's plan to take him down. He was crying. I was scared s’less. The whole thing was awkward. At the end she claimed to the whole class that his mother asked her to help him and she said that she was employing "shock treatment".”
Bemused said, “I wasn't in that class but I heard about it later. Young children are often in the regular martial arts class or watching from the lobby. I could see bringing this subject up among teens and adults, but not young kids. And I could see bringing this subject up in a small, private group, but not in a public place where anyone can come and go such as a martial arts school. She (Tae Yun) claims to be all about family values. I don't think so. To call it "awkward" is an understatement.
“Even if she had brought it up in a private group of teens and adults, the only explanation for her using "shock treatment" was her homophobia. Unfortunately the boy's mother seemed to share this attitude, but it was the 90s when the AIDS scare was still fresh in people's minds. Teens are naturally curious about sex, so he wasn't doing anything all that unusual. I don't know where that young man is now, but I hope that wherever he ended up sexually, he is happy.”
Failed Student said, “What's with her and her obsession with sexual activity - other people's in particular? Why is it her business if people are masturbating, and what they fantasize about when doing so? If one reads any of numerous survey, everyone masturbates, men and women. (There was even an episode on Seinfeld about that). On that infamous tape, Tae Yun says she is doing it too - so why the condemnation?
“As for the young man watching gay porn so what? If he's going to turn out gay, that orientation was already determined at conception. Nothing can change other than on the surface, and all he'll do is pretend to be straight and secretly harbor other feelings which he will furtively act on when the opportunity arises. Leave the kid alone, let him be what he is. Madame and all those conservative Christians with their ex-gay groups and Love Won Out are destructive to the individual. Their "success" rate is near zero anyway.”
Failed Student said, “Madame used to discuss STD's with her class in Vermont, and encourage students to share their sexual experiences. I found it inappropriate and really not germane to martial arts. Some did volunteer information, and I really felt a bit uncomfortable hearing about urethritis and similar ailments, especially as I was the only female student at the time.”
Failed Student said, “I am getting a mixed message from Tae Yun - She makes outrageous comments like "Look and Die" or asks "Ain't I Hot", or asks if her students are constantly thinking about her or how is their "connection" to her. Their entire existence revolves around her. Add that situation to a bunch of young people whose hormones are overactive and have no sexual outlet. Is it any wonder they are doing a bit of self-gratification? Is it any wonder they might possibly be fantasizing about their great high holy exalted ceo grandmaster while doing so?”
Shadow Dancer said, “I have a question for all you COL'ons: How are you actually 'helping' people. You have said that this is your purpose and why you wanted to train with kimmy. So, how is what you are doing 'helping' others? What have 'you' done to make the world a better place today? Since there are far more 'failed students' than current ones, how have you helped them? Other than spending your day flattering on old hag and making her life as opulent as possible, who have you helped and how?”
bemused said, “ I don't know how often mutinies happen in cults, but I suspect not often. Cult members are encouraged to snitch on each other, so they end up not trusting each other. When someone has doubts, they assume no one else does. So they tend to leave on their own, leaving their sweethearts or spouses and sometimes even their children in the cult.
“There was one mass exodus of COL members just prior to the Inside Edition report (they are featured in it), but this was an exception. All those people were good friends before joining and never lived in the COL houses.
“A government can never control its entire population the way a cult can control its members, because there are always people who never went along with the program in the first place. In a cult, everyone chooses to join except the children who are born into it, and they don't know anything else.
“It would be great if all of COL left en masse, but I'm not holding my breath.”
bemused said, “More likely than a mutiny is Tae Yun self-destructing. Fighting Adam G must be draining a lot of her financial resources. Even if she wins, she won't be as strong as she was. If she loses, she could be weakened far more.
“If the press reports on the case, it could make it very hard for her to recruit new students even for her martial arts school, let alone COL. And an expose more damaging than the Inside Edition report could cause more defections. And she brought all this on herself. She could have let Adam G go quietly, but my understanding is that she sued him first.”
Her Lesson said, “The only ones that fear her are the COL'ers. She will have a difficult time recruiting anyone else, word has spread to all parts of the world. I am getting feedback from all over. It is easier for them to stay with her then to admit that they have been wrong and that she is nothing except an old lady with many faults. How can they admit they spent years of servitude, time and money on someone who is nothing?
“If they rather be right then happy that is their call.”
Failed Student said, “I just wanted to say something about freedom, and what an exhilarating feeling one gets when one day you realize you are in control of your life once again.
“It is an epiphany. It happened for me about a year after I got away from the witch. It was a beautiful day, and I let my dogs run freely across an open meadow, happily chasing after some geese that were in a pond. Suddenly it struck me that I no longer had to dread her phone calls, answer to her for my actions, or feel any kind of guilt for anything concerning my association with that group. I had regained my sense of worth, my self-esteem, and I could interact with the rest of the world on an equal footing.
“I have heard other ex-culties express that same feeling, including one ex-COLer. Imagine that you had a life threatening illness, and one day you were completely cured. That is what it is like - a new lease on life, a chance to make your own choices and be responsible for your actions.
“As far as surviving without her - I did. Yes, I went through some tough financial times, and I held two jobs, but I succeeded, I didn't "starve" as she told me I would without her. For you that are thinking about getting out, there are employment opportunities, and you won't starve either. There are temporary services that you can sign up with. You have skills that you can use. Lots of times those temporary positions turn into full time employment. Even if you have to work as a check out clerk at Home Depot, it will at least get you a paycheck until something better comes along. (I once worked the Christmas season for Hickory Farms doing data entry, and they were so grateful to me they let me name my price if I would return the next season).
“It is interesting to note that since I started posting, I have never felt physically or emotionally better. Even my acid reflux has gone away. Maybe all that I have suppressed over the years has been eating away at me. In any event, I have shared my experiences with my family now, something I once dreaded their knowing about. Now I am seriously contemplating publishing my memoirs. (And I won't demand that everyone buy a crap load of my book just so I can claim some sort of fame.)
bemused said, “Well, gosh. She gave me clothes, generally loud and cheap, almost all of which I've since gotten rid of. She also gave me some fake jewelry I no longer have. She gave me several 'makeovers.' All of my belts, uniforms, and other martial arts gear I had to pay for myself. At the very end, she gave me money to buy a keyboard in the hope that I wouldn't leave angry. What she 'gave' me in terms of what I learned I could have gotten at another martial arts school without all the BS.
“What she 'gave' doesn't even come close to what she asked me to give up. When I compare my time in COL and Lighthouse to my life now, it's obvious I was grossly underpaid, friendless, nearly estranged from my family, depressed, and exhausted. But the worst part of it was that I couldn't make my own choices without risking humiliation in front of all of COL, or even all of the regular martial arts students. For those 10 years I gave her everything I could give to another person. I gave her the 'poverty, chastity, and obedience' that the Catholic Church asks of priests and nuns.
“And yet, I'll bet she thinks that all the former COL students are ungrateful. That's what she said about the people who left before I did. SHE is the one who should be grateful. She has become rich and even somewhat famous due to the cheap labor of many people.”
Ryanbeld said, “I know I haven’t posted in ages. but as I’ve been doing some writing of late I’ve remembered a couple interesting instances that at the time gave me pause. It made me think back then, and it makes me ponder still..
“Shadow brought up "loyalty tests". I remember a specific instance during one COL class where Tae Yun announced to the class that one of Mark’s relatives had passed away and he had inherited a large sum of money, the figure she used was 17 million. Naturally all of COL was shocked. She proceeded to tell the class that he was going to be leaving to claim the money and take care of all the proceedings. Over the course of the next couple days people were coming up to him and saying their goodbyes and condolences for his relative and stuff of that nature because we had all known him for many years. I for one was happy for him; I mean its his choice and his life and his family, would any person have done differently?
“To make the long story short a couple of days later there was a follow up class where it was revealed that it was a sham all along. There was no deceased relative, no money.. Tae Yun said she was testing us, seeing where our loyalties lie, and why we should feel indebted to her.. I literally felt sick to my stomach. why the deception? Why did she feel the need to lie to us? and on the other hand, why did Mark A. go along with it? Why mess with the heads of people you consider family? Now I am pretty sure the "test" arose from paranoia. I guess its easy to predict someone will "betray" you if you go down certain roads. Its not a prediction, its an expectation.
“This next example is more amusing, all of COL was going on vacation to palm springs. We were driving in a line of cars with walkie-talkies to keep us connected. Anyways someone thought it a good idea to get on the radio and thank Tae Yun profusely. What one does, we all do. Not to be outdone, member after member got on the radio to thank Tae Yun for anything and everything under the sun, but also to announce that they love being there and she's the greatest and so on. I really didn’t want to have to say anything, to me it isn’t genuine if you are put on the spot or made to. Luckily before it was my turn some random person not of COL nature got on the radio and said something along the lines of "Haha, you're not changing the world!" I felt like laughing but the other members in the car looked as if they had each bitten from the same sour apple so I refrained. After that, the public adoration over the radio stopped. As the landscape rolled by I tried to think of how the world had changed since I had been in COL. granted, presidents had changed, more wars had been fought. but how did Tae Yun change the world? I couldn’t come up with an answer and still struggle to find one. Did I like her as a person? Sure, when she wasn’t lying to us. There were plenty of fun times. Did I like her as a savior? No.
“That was the same trip where she came into our hotel rooms in the middle of the night to tie some string around our ankles. It was funny because I shared a room with JW (bless his soul, he's one of the only people to question her on a regular basis no matter how pissed she gets because of it) That night he got a call in the room to leave the door open; I figured the string thing was coming because why else would Tae Yun want the door open during the night. I knew it was coming but would much rather sleep than acknowledge a grown woman crawling through my hotel room in the middle of the night with a ball of twine. Sure enough, JW woke up when she was tying the string on him, and she got mad at him for getting up! really, I can't make this stuff up!
“Maybe in two thousand years as the next breed of man roams the earth in search of answers, her books will be dug from the sands and taken as facts from a forgotten era. If it was written that long ago, it must be of meaning and value.
“No one can question the dead and expect answers. In my limited experience. a concept plus time equals truth. Whether that truth equals Reality is a different beast altogether.
“I wont comment on her looks other than to say that she doesn’t trust her own people enough to tell them the truth about her plastic surgeries at the time they happen. Instead we were told she was having a life threatening medical procedure. For those days she was in LA getting plastic energy work we were in Jung Su Won late at night chanting "Tae Yun Tae Yun" and going through the rest of the COL songbook and praying for her.
Here is a simple concept, practice honesty. it’ll cut down significantly on the Judas factor.
Ryanbeld said, “here is another pearl...If you can't trust a person enough to let them in; they will find their way out...and Confucius say.. "War not determine who is right, War determine who is left!" haha
Shadow Dancer said, “I don’t know if her books will survive a few hundred years. They are mostly all owned by COL members and aren't really in the general population. You are right on about the 'adoration parties'. I really hated all the times when we had to get chapped lips from kissing her ass continually.”
bemused said, “Ryanbeld said, Here is a simple concept, practice honesty. it’ll cut down significantly on the Judas factor.
She said to him, “I don't think Tae Yun can practice honesty. It's not just because she can lie without the slightest feeling of guilt. It's because to claim the kind of total authority over her followers that she wants, she has to present herself as superhuman and her pronouncements as infallible. Since no one is really superhuman and infallible, she inevitably has to lie.
“Despite its impossibility, many people want to believe in a superhuman and infallible leader. And it isn't just the ultraconservative wing nuts either. Go to just about any New Age gathering and you'll see people reproached if they appear to be thinking too much. A sense of certainty, however illusory, is comforting in a confusing world.
“Tae Yun doesn't like it when people leave her, because it calls the value of her "teaching" into question. So she has to attribute the defection to a grandiose plot by evil forces to make herself feel important. She inflates what most people would consider a mere falling out into a declaration of war by Satan. The Judas factor is largely a figment of her imagination. It's kind of amusing.
“Her legal battles are all of her own making. It is my understanding that she kicked Adam G out, and she sued him first. Others have sued her in the past to get back money she extorted from them.”
Shadow Dancer said, “I'm not sure she is entitled to even being called a victim of a 'Judas Factor'. She is the one who has betrayed everyone she meets by using them up and then throwing away the empty husks. Is it even possible to consider a money-hungry social climbing lying slut to be a 'victim'? When "her" victims wake up and see what she is doing/has done and leave... they are only recognizing the spiritual and financial rape that took place by her and her organization. She is a 'perp' pure and simple.”
Rossanna said, “Adam G (Giandomenico) was not kicked out of COL. He left after she made unreasonable demands due to KSW's (Williams?) accusations. Here's what happened:
“When the whole brouhaha started with KSW, Adam G was in China. He was summarily escorted from his hotel room by PM who took his laptop, tickets, etc. and tried to take his cell phone as well. Of course he refused to give that up seeing that it was his phone, in his name. He called me and asked me to help him to get back Stateside, after which, when he arrived in CA, he drove to Oregon to face the accusations made against him by Kim. The whole time he was driving, Kim gave him the hot and cold treatment, calling him, and then ignoring him. Meanwhile, it was announced in Lighthouse that he was leaving Lighthouse in order to focus on building her living legacy, which until that point he was doing on the side. After I was informed that I was being let go, Kim called me while I was in the midst of packing and asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was preparing to leave seeing that I no longer had a job and had no intentions of remaining in Medford. She said something along the lines of not having to leave because I would still be working for her and I said that I had no intentions of working for someone who would reward loyalty and integrity by summarily firing them with no real cause. She then told me that her intentions was only to move me to another project where I would still be working with Adam G because she knew that we worked well together, blah, blah, blah. So, straight from the horse’s mouth (no pun intended) Adam G was not kicked out, he quit.
“During his drive to Oregon, her demands of him were as follows. Admit that KSW accusations were true. Apologize to the whole of COL on his hands and knees
“Suffice it to say he refused. He was willing to apologize if he truly did hurt anyone’s feelings but he had no intentions of throwing himself on the mercy of anyone. What most don't know is that at that point, Adam G was the MAN in Lighthouse. She had become a figurehead, not even mentioned on the company website because it was bad for business and he knew it. Lighthouse had grown from a mom n pop into a force to be reckoned in the industry and Adam G along with a core team of people worked to keep it that way with minimal references to anything that had to do with Kim and her martial art. Of course this did not sit well with Kim, so the opportunity that KSW placed in her hands to try to rein him in was like manna from heaven in Kim's eyes.
“What she didn't realize and still doesn't is that with some people, when you push, they just push back and when you keep pushing, well...look at the mess she now has in her hands, with a seemingly bigger mess soon to come.
“When Adam G started down the freedom road to Boston, Kim called several times, making demands that he do the whole hands and knees thing, alternating between sweet talking and screaming at Adam G, telling him to turn around and drive back and when he stopped taking her calls, left messages for him, sometimes in a cutesy voice and in some instances, talking so nasty that it would put those 1-800-jer-koff hotlines to shame.
“Needless to say he made his decision and stuck to it and believe it or not, Kim is still waiting for him to come back.
“She made a prediction after he left and reiterated it several times since then that Adam G will be coming back to her in 2008. HA! Fat freaking chance!
“Why would anyone with even a miniscule of sense go back to prison after being out after 16 years of hell? Make no mistake, COL is a prison, which for some, is one of their own making because you know what? You are in a cell but the keys are right there in the lock, you just need to turn the key and step out. Easier said then done, right? Well, look around you, how many have done it and survived, even thrived on the outside and they all did it without a net, without a network of people willing and able to support and help you to deal, emotionally, mentally and financially. A roof over your head, food on the table, a bed to sleep in to start with. More than what you have right now. People like you, who have been there, to listen, to cry with and laugh with. People who care, and who neither want nor need anything in return except to see you heal and move on, free to live your life.
“Sad to say, this offer has been made several times within this forum and through other channels yet less than a handful have had the courage to make the call. COL'ers, I hope that when you finally decide to make your move, it won't be too late to pick up the pieces of your lives. I truly hope that you think long and hard about where you are and ask yourself if you are truly happy...or if the state of happiness has been so far removed from your life for so long that you don't even know what it feels like anymore. peace.”
Her Lesson said, “Ross - This is absolutely true, I have heard the phone calls. It is also true that LWS would not even be on the map had it not be known that Adam G was in charge and that several reputable people were hired who were not part of COL and have a history within the industry as having integrity. Her past precedes her. They had to do damage control before any business could be conducted. I know, I was there!
bemused said, “A high-level defection weakens a cult and can inform and embolden its critics, and Adam G was as high as the levels go in COL, aside from the Great Grandmaster Dr. CEO. His exit certainly mattered a lot.
“But COL isn't the only martial arts cult talked about on Bullshido. There are quite a few others, and I'll bet those cult leaders have wanted just as badly to bring Bullshido down. They haven't succeeded.”
Ryanbeld said, “I remember when she baptized all of COL in the swimming pool in her backyard...I wonder what religion that makes me...Buddhist? Mormon? Christian? catholic? either way I renounce my baptism.. and thank you KC for not ratting me out to Tae Yun when you caught me smoking at the Midwick house. haha. I thought for sure there would have been a class about that. I mean, I got singled out in a class for just listening to the radio..
“So I guess if Tae Yun wants to be a filter for all of COL by not letting them watch TV or listen to the radio, or choosing what is acceptable for grown men and women.. that’s fine. but mistake me if I’m wrong, every filter needs to be changed once in a while or else its gets full of crap and the whole system shuts down.”
bemused said, “I thought I'd mention a minor example of Tae Yun's cruelty, simply because I feel the need to rant.
“In athletic activities I don't have much speed or power. I have pretty good endurance, balance, and coordination, and exceptional flexibility, but exertion-induced asthma (diagnosed by a doctor Tae Yun recommended) and a likely lack of fast-twitch fibers in my leg muscles limit how much physical effort I can expend in a short interval. I was the slowest runner in COL, and everyone knew it. Tae Yun knew it and she harangued me to move faster anyway.
“This was especially humiliating when Tae Yun called upon all of COL to play tag. I tried to stay as far away from whoever was "it" as possible, and to try not to be noticed. But many times as the "it" person changed to slower and slower people, I ended up as the best target. When I became "it" I stayed "it." I couldn't catch up to anyone. But I wasn't allowed to quit. So I ran myself ragged uselessly for as long as Tae Yun wanted the game to continue.
“By the way, Tae Yun never participated in these games of tag. What a bitch.”
Her Lesson answered some of Chica’s questions.
“I also wanted to add some other cruel things she did to people since I went off on another tangent in my last posting....
If she knew that certain people didn't get along she would make them share a room together. Then she would get mad and yell at them for fighting.
Sometimes if someone confessed a sexual fantasy they had or that they masturbated, Tae Yun Kim would call them up and tell them to show her how they masturbated in front of everyone else in COL. Thank God it didn't happen too often, but when it did I found it disturbing.
Overweight people. Where do I begin. I can't tell you how many times I felt bad for CKC. Tae Yun would tell other people in front of her that the would end up looking like her. Overweight people did not deserve respect in Tae Yun Kim's eyes. People could make fun of them, and nothing would be done about it.... well, because they were overweight and it was considered their fault that they're over weight. Plus they're just overweight because they are lazy and don't try hard enough. (Tae Yun's reasoning). Tae Yun felt that treating them bad would motivate them. Instead, I saw that it hurt them even more.
Truth talks. Tae Yun would make us talk about our problems with each other in front of all of COL.
She should be locked up. What you wrote is so disturbing, she is SICK - psychiatric disorders. Why hasn't she been committed?”
Failed Student said, “WTBF is wrong with this woman? I am not a religious person by any stretch of the imagination, but what she is doing is crazy, if not outright sacrilege. In her striving to be the second coming, she is doing the Jesus thing by baptizing her followers, but can she walk on water, increase the number of loaves and fishes, or raise the dead? Her delusions are at the level where I would seriously question her sanity.
